New steps regarding online shopping
The EU Commission today, Wednesday, proposed a package of measures regarding e-commerce.
It includes legislative proposals in three areas:
- Geo blocking - tackling the discrimination of consumers based on their nationality or place of residence once and for all.
- Parcel delivery - making cross-border deliveries more affordable.
- Consumer protection - strengthen enforcement through better coordination between national authorities and modern regulations.
The measures are part of the digital single market strategy of the Commission. Many consumers hesitate to make cross-border purchases online and also companies face insecurities. Revisions of the existing legislation and increased actions against unfair commercial practices aim to improve the trust in the single market.
Beforehand, Commission, Council and Parliament have to agree on a common text to be adopted. Please find all information in this article.
