Campaign regarding consumer credits

EU informs young citizens

The European Commission has started an information campaign to raise awareness among young consumers between 18 and 35 about their rights regarding consumer credits. Expensive wishes like a new laptop or an extraordinary journey might come true thanks to such credits. But caution is necessary and a comprehensive check of all conditions is obligatory in order to avoid bad experiences.

A study conducted by the EU has shown that the European consumers don't feel like they know enough about this topic. The EU Commission took this as an occasion to inform specifically about this area of consumer protection. Austria is one of three focus countries.

The campaign aims at three rights regarding consumer credits:

  • the right to obtain pre-contractual information in a standardized form (Standard European Consumer Credit Information)
  • the right to withdraw from the credit agreement within a period of 14 days after the conclusion of the contract;
  • the right to repay consumer credit earlier than foreseen at any time
