A list of tips relevant for your stay in Rio is provided by the website "Olympic Tourist". There you can find information about public transport, safety and consumer rights in Brazil as well as important emergency contacts and phone numbers.
The Austrian embassy in Brazil recommends to get a comprehensive health insurance for your stay abroad. Furthermore it is important to take care of necessary vaccinations.
You need to unlock your debit card for cash withdrawals abroad for the duration of your journey (GeoControl).
As an Austrian tourist, you don't need a visa for Rio. Your passport has to be valid for at least six months, a personal ID card is not sufficient.
