The EU Commission today announced the annual update of the air safety list which catalogues all airlines that do not meet international safety standards and are therefore restricted from operating in the EU.
The decision upon who gets on the "black list" and who is taken off, is made by experts from the Member States together with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on the grounds of European safety standards as well as those of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
With today's update, Iran Air, all airlines from the African state Sambia and three airlines licensed in Indonesia can resume their operations in Europe. A total of 216 airlines are banned according to the list.
